Now the software
I use Fruity Loops XXL 8 Producer Edition. I'm very impressed with Fruity Loops these days. In the past, image line has let me down. FL XXL 8 is very easy to use, and quick to learn on. Its got most the tools you need to create, and edit music. It also supports more VST, VSTI, and DXI than any other program available.
VST (Virtual Studio Technology) is the biggest part of my music. I use too many to list them all, but here is a list of my favorites.

  Rob Papens Predator-
Predator is a "phat sounding" killer synthesizer that combines inspiring presets and first-class features to make this your 'go-to' synth for contemporary music production. $149
Rob Papens Blue-BLUE has six oscillators which can be connected in various ways, two analogue style modelled stereo filters, an enormous range of processing and modulation options, sequencer and an incredibly powerful arpeggiator. $199.
Tone 2 Gladiator-The innovative synthesis, design and unmatched sound quality, make this not only the perfect instrument, but also the best virtual synthesizer and go-to instrument for all those looking for the ultimate creative tool . $199.
Also check out Firebird, Sytrus, Morphine, Poizone, Albino, RGC:Audio Z3TA, Dark Theory, and Acrobatics Alieno.
There are a ton of VST freeware available online. Just google search VST and VSTI freeware. If you find a good one, let me know. Sometimes you stumble upon some real gems.
